What is deep sea oil
Oil comes from the remains of tiny plants and animals (plankton) that died in ancient seas between 10 million and 600 million years ago. After the organisms died, they sank into the sand and mud at the bottom of the sea.

In New Zealand, the current deepest production well is only 125 meters below sea level. However, plans are in place to drill at water depths of well over 1000m.
It would be better for the environment if we looked for another source of energy to use. But it is a problem because it would cost a lost of money to invest in the new types of technology, for example, wind and wake power, however, we already have the infrastructure to set up for oil drilling.
The company provides people with jobs,so there are over 3000 people rely on the oil industry.
New Zealand doesn’t really receive very much of the profit at all because 80% of the money goes to the oil drilling company!
